The best part of Brunei was getting there and away. It was a convoluted process that involved changing buses four times with a short boat ride in between. Our journey started in Miri, Sarawak where we boarded the bus for the border. At the border we got off the bus and went through Malaysian immigration. Then we boarded the bus for the 2 min ride to the Brunei immigration. After that we waited in scorching heat, for about a half hour, for the bus to Kuala Belait. We rode for about 5 mins before we disembarked again to ride a boat across the river and then boarding another bus for the rest of the journey to Kuala Belait (which was another 10-15 mins).

At Kuala Belait we boarded another bus after waiting for 10 mins. Time enough to get Brunei currency from a bank machine. This bus ride to Seria was another 15 mins which was good since we sat on the floor for most of it. In Seria we almost immediately boarded the bus to BSB which took about two hours. This bus was much bigger and only had about 10 people on it. However, for all the on and off it was fairly straight forward and the people were very friendly and helpful.

Our first night we got tickets to the Jerudong Park Playground which is a very large amusement park. Before we left we were told that the roller coaster was closed for servicing. On arrival we found out that 4 other large rides were closed for servicing as well. So we spent the evening riding the log ride, go carts and watching a fountain and light show set to music. Overall I was a little disappointed that the rides were closed but the park was really nice.

The next day we strolled around Kampung Ayer which is a village built on stilts. It is rather interesting walking through a maze of houses above the water on wooden walkways with children waving and saying hello. It's also interesting to see cats walking underneath the boards of the walkway on the cross beams.

Other highlights included two Mosques. The first one was a large white Mosque named Omar Ali Saifuddien. Linda had to don a black gown to go in. It was impressive, just a massive open space with rugs on the floor for prayer. Equally impressive was Jame'Asr Hassanal Bohkiak. It had more trees around it and it was a nice blue color with gold domes. These buildings were so impressive that I can't wait to see the Taj Mahal in India.

The rest of our time we spent strolling through the city and eating. We filled ourselves with some very good Indian food. Next we head back to Miri then to Kuala Lumpur.
