Kim had put me in charge of the itenerary of our small trip, and the thing I most wanted to see was the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, as it is something that will not stand there the next time I come by (it closes on October 31. 2010)
Us getting to Shanghai had gotten quite screwed up because of numerous things, that were, just plain annoying. But we came to Shanghai last night.
At the Expo, what you see most are the outsides of the pavilions, as the ques to the pavilions are hours long, unless you have obtained easy access in some way.
So at the Expo we only went into the Danish, Swedish and Icelandic, as the Nordic countries (Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland) have made a mutual agreement that if you hold a passport from one of those countries you can get easy access.
The Swedish pavilion looked like a glorified Ikea-commercial and the Icelandic was a very beautiful film about the Icelandic nature (I want to go to Iceland some day)
In the Danish pavilion we, of course, saw the Little Mermaid, sitting on her stone in the pool of water (which is NOT from the Copenhagen harbor, as the architect form BIG claims)
Apart from the Little Mermaid some pictures are displayed on the walls as you walk, or bike, to the top of the pavilion.
My very good friend, and ex-roomie, showed me around the pavilion, as she works there, which was very convenient.
In the afternoon Kim and I went out hunting for the new Apple-store in Shanghai, as it has a rather curious design, as you can see in my pictures.
From there we returned to our hotel, picked up our bags, and went to the train station to get onto the train to Hangzhou, from where we were getting on the plane to Chongqing.
More about that later.
Best,
Eva Maria
