Hello!

Help! Greece is not a great place to visit off-season. I think Joe and I were spoiled by Spain, so when we arrived in Santorini, we figured, "Yes, bigger island, more to do!" Not really...

I would highly recommend that people visit this island in the summer because there is so much to do! There are wineries, tours to the local volcano, glass bottom boats, hot springs, and more! We stayed in our little apartment most of the time because it was cold, rainy, and we had BBC News again.

When we did venture out, we didn't have good luck. One day, we went to a filthy restaurant (one of the few places open). Joe opened the ketchup bottle and it exploded all over him and the restaurant (it was old, folks). Then the woman with brown, decaying teeth, gave Joe another ketchup bottle. Alas, it had expired in 2004.

The day that we wanted to rent a car, the agent told us to go take a tour of town and said to come back at 500pm for the car. This was at 1200pm. He also warned me to "bundle up", but he was really warning my boobs because he was talking directly to them.

Our walk through town was scenic and enjoyable--it's a little street that borders a cliff. One of the local dogs came over and started following us. Then he disappeared, and we heard a lot of barking and a pack of dogs ran by. Five minutes later, the pack of dogs startede following us, well, chasing us. Joe and I were freaked! We managed to find refuge at the local Dominican Nun monastary.

We did see a gorgeous sunsent--Santorini is well-known for that, as well as other parts of the island when we got driving around. But again, poor weather for driving on very narrow roads.

The next day, we had to be up at 230am to catch our 18-hour long ferry ride to Rhodes. What a small nightmare! We were able to get upgraded to a cabin and finally got some sleep. When I did wake up, I walked around the boat and saw some phenominal sights. However, inside I got a miserable headache between the ferry fumes, chain-smokers and just being on a boat for so long. We finally arrived in Rhodes around 1030pm and we ran off the boat to get to the hotel...

Again, I would highly recommend this island, but during the summer! Unless, you want to be chased (again) by wild dogs :)

HEY!
Ya, all that, and I don't feel sorry for you one bit! But, I do know how miserable traveling under adverse conditions can be - is! On a sad note, Peggyann died on Friday, and I'm still crying! I am so sad...
