The heat here is starting to take it's toil as we all slept in until 8:30 this morning. The heat wave continues today with a high of 32 C. A light breakfast and Pat & I are off to the Louvre for a few hours to see some exquisite antiquities , there is so much to see here that you really have to pick and choose, or stay with one wing and just do the floors in that wing which is what we did, except with some slight deviation. We saw the Venus de Milo, winged victory of Samothrace, Mona Lisa, Egyptian antiquities, etc. There is something here for everyone. Three hours can go by so quickly when you are immersed in history but there is more of Paris to see, so it’s back on the Metro and the next stop is Place de la Concorde where a lot of people lost their head here during the French Revolution, but it also has an artifact from Egypt here and that’s another obelisk from the Luxor temple. They also have a podium and the area fenced off for the Tour de France which also ends in the same place.
From there we headed off to Montmartre to see the city of Paris from another point of view as it overlooks the city with almost a 360 degree view. The summit of Montmartre has a church on it named the Sacre’-Coeur and is quite something to see as well. By this time it was getting close to supper so we headed back to the apartment to meet up with our friend Shelley and have a light evening meal as it way too hot to be cooking. We decided the other day that we would do an evening cruise on the Seine to get a look at Paris in the evening so we headed back to the river and took a 10:00 PM cruise and had some fun with that, and during that time the final Fifa cup was on and now this evening the city has gone crazy with a lot of celebrating going on in the streets and horn honking, yelling and cheering. I can only imagine what would have happened had France won this..... and will leave it at that, time for bed as it’s now 12:25 AM. More later
