A friend has suggested we try out couch-surfing as a cheap way to see big cities and get to know the places to go. So heading into Germany we made contact with a guy living in Berlin- in his camper van....interesting. We don't know what to expect. Is he in a campsite? Is he on a street free camping, and if so how come he doesn't get moved on? Yep- this Polish guy lives in a camper van on a street lined with other camper vans surrounded by residential units, and has been doing so for twelve months. We are alittle dubious about weather or not this is a good idea- but deceived to give it a go. It is not until we see the steal shutters descending on the units that we also notice the graffiti on some of the vans that look like they have been there for awhile. Will Grandpa survive the night untagged??

We awake with our doors still lock and grandpa still one colour- Success! Feeling a little safer we head into Berlin to explore this city filled with so much history.

Berlin is a city rich in the obvious history of WWII and the Berlin wall. Our day comprised of tracing the remaining sections of the wall, which were dotted around the city, and seeing Museums in between. In short... we were amazed at how rich the history and the struggle in which people had to endure during the wars. Ultimately since Hitler was an EVIL man with horrific endeavours we struggled to accept that this could be allowed to happen. Oh how we are fortunate to live in the times we do with the free access we have.

Highlights of the day:

1.     So much history.. we loved it

2.     Finding a really funky cafe / bar which had the best iced coffee's we have ever had.

3.     Overdoing it and feeling exhausted

The next day we wandered around town and visited Museum Island (a island with four museums on it), quite a spectacle. After our time in Berlin, we can honestly say we have both liked the city and also disliked it. It is hard to explain. I am sure we look forward discussing with you all when we come home.
