These were two great days enjoying American wildlife by Lake Tahoe in northern California. The father of my girlfriend at the time heard I was Norwegian and that I loved the great outdoors, so he rented a beautiful mountain cabin close to the lake. I could not have asked for a better introduction.

After futile attempts at finding me a SIM-card to put in my phone, we got on the road for the two-hour haul from San Francisco to Lake Tahoe. Stopping by in a small town for delicious burgers (the one great invention of American cuisine) and a nice walk, we finally reached the cabin in the late afternoon. And what a cabin! Beautiful log build on the outside, with all the commodities that we are used to from everyday life inside (I know - cheating!). After a nice evening with dinner at a local restaurant overlooking the valley, we crashed in the softest double bed I have ever been in. Successful first day I think.

The next day started with some coordination problems. As Lake Tahoe is rather large and the number of paths to walk is fairly considerable, it was not an easy feat to decide where and how to walk. At the heart of the problem was the fact that me and my girlfriend was in rather decent shape, whereas her parents were getting older. Hence we needed a path that was challenging enough without breaking the folks. In the end we walked along the east-side of the lake in two groups and met back at the car.

Apart from the magnificent nature, the icy rivers and the wonderful company I was in, the highlight of this trip was to sit down halfway through our hike to open a bottle of Jägermeister, eating delicious biscuits and tangerines, while slowly realizing that this is about as good as life will ever get. Memorable day in a memorable place!
