What I did
Spent half day in Athens
We got to Athens at 12:20 pm, checked into our Sofitel Athens Airport Hotel, which was literally across the street. Awesome hotel. Same hotel chain we are staying with in Amsterdam. We hopped on the subway from the airport and went downtown and headed straight up to the Acropolis. Barb and I put a splitter in her iphone so we each had a set of headphones and put on Rick Steeves audio tour of the Acropolis. After the Acropolis we walked thru the Plaka again, had a bite to eat. (certainly not where we ate our first night in Greece. We are seasoned veterans now, no more plaka crap for us, we know what to look for now). We then jumped back on the subway (now rush hour) and headed back to our Airport Hotel and got a good nights sleep as we had to wake up at 3:30 am to check in at 4:00 am for our 5:00 am flight to Amsterdam. (now you know why we decided to stay at an Airport hotel).
