We rented a great car. Splurged a bit. It was a Peugot 207cc A/C Cabrio.
We rented from Vazeos...The representative arrived on time, then insisted the daily rate was higher that what was in their brochure. After some arguing he relented and agreed to the published price. I should never had have to have this arguement with him. The car was great. We spent all day driving around the island. We got in late. I went out to the parking lot at 10:45 the next morning, the car was gone. I thought it was stolen. Afterall our rental was for 24 hours...11am to 11am. Christina from our hotel phoned the rental company and they lied but were caught since I was standing there, and the car was gone. The worst part was it was not until later did I realize my miniture tripod for my camera must still be in the car. We had to do without the tripod for the rest of the trip. (since they stole the car back, they would never admit to our property being in there). So don't rent from Vazeos!

Other than the way the day started we had a great time. We started by having breakfast at Mama's Place in Fira. Great food, decent prices, nice restaurant, and of course Mama. The girls all seemed to like the waiter.Even my wife was saying something about "eye candy". Mama was in Crete on this day, so we would have to wait until the next time to meet the famous Mama. We did meet Mama 2 days later. She served us some of the best pasta we have ever eaten. We then drove out to Pyrgos. Great view from up on the mountain. After this we drove to the red beach but decided not to hike to the beach due to time restraints. We did go to Perissa beach and dipped our toes in the water. Still pretty cold. Next time we are coming in September when the Sea has had all summer to warm up. We needed to use a washroom but didn't want to just use a restaurants washroom so we ordered a Tequila Sunrise, Pina Colada, and some saganacki and used the washroom. That was the 20 EUR solution.

We stopped in Fira and wandered around. There are stairs coming up from the port where there is a gondola to take tourists up to the top from the port. The other method is the Santorini donkey rides. Most tourists we saw were petting, giving water and talking about how cruel this is. We heard that at least 2 cruise ships are telling people not to ride these donkeys. This is the Santorinian way of getting up and down the cliffs for construction and for tourists. They are working donkeys. However the donkey herders are not very nice to the donkeys and have been known to put tacks or nails in the ends of their canes when nobody is looking. They of course pull the tack or nail if anybody is watching. Personally I do not believe that these poor donkeys should be hauling a brunch of fat tourists up this steep stairs. The worst thing is these tourists think nothing of it, that this is a true greek experience, a memory. We think not, especially at 40 degrees.

That evening we went to Santorini Mou on the outskirts of Oia. A must do if in Oia. Good food, good drink, good service, but most of all lots of fun. Mihalis and his wife are always up for a party, to celebrate whatever needs to be celebrated. Do not bother going before 10PM and plan on staying late. All clocks in restaurant say 11:55. They stay open as long as there are people.
Mihalis plays his guitar with whoever joins him, his wife dances, free shots of raki were flowing when we were there. Lots of fun.
