With my two day trip to Penang being extended indefinitely I decided to make the most and get exploring.  Unfortunately I left it until a month afterwards to write about my adventures and so I've forgotten most of it.  I hope the pictures help tell the story better than my brief diary!

Arriving on Sunday I headed straight for Chilli's to treat myself to a proper burger and then on to get my hair done at the 'posh' mall next door (Although apparently posh doesn't necessarily mean good hairdressers...note to self, stick to getting hair dyed in non Asian countries).

Monday meant a trip back to the hairdressers for some damage control, some amazing (beef) bacon pancakes at the pancake house and a lot of window shopping.

By Tuesday I realized I was going to be in Penang longer than anticipated and so, tired of public transport and expensive taxis, I headed out to rent a scooter.  LOVED it!  I manged to travel round half the island and check out the batik factory before coming across a tiny kitten in a ditch with a broken leg, just as the rain started...after that I headed back to my hotel (kitten in basket) so we could both dry off.

Wednesday, and the new kitten found a new home, thanks to some friends I'd made on a previous Penang trip, and I was free to explore Tesco and the rest of the island followed by an afternoon children's birthday party and a curry in Little India.

Thursday it rained...all day!  I headed to the second hand bookstore and got a couple of good reads.

Friday I lived in luxury at the Hard Rock Hotel pool, with a half price pizza and a really good coffee thanks to a friend's discount card.  Nothing quite like relaxing by the pool, overlooking the sea and soaking up the sun to help forget about Medan!

Saturday I decided to explore some more and so headed off to the Tropical Spice Garden (which probably would have smelt more tropical had they not coated me head to toe in citronella at the entrance).  Then one more time around the island, a brief sighting of a huge monitor lizard, a stop off at the Clan Jetties (see photos) and a tour around snake temple before treating myself to a movie at the cinema.

Sunday I headed back to the church I'd been to the first time I was in Penang to catch up with some of the people I'd met there, then out to lunch (for the best curry in Penang) and back to the Hard Rock Hotel to soak up some more sun...and pizza!

Monday was back to business and off to the consulate, a few more hours at the Hard Rock, then by Tuesday it was time to pack up and head back to sunny Medan...bye bye Penang, it'll be a while 'til I see you again!
