I took a shuttle van from the airport to my hotel. I had heard from guidebooks, internet posts, and soon to be co-workers that Korean drivers were supposed to be fairly bad. But really I've heard the same thing about every country I went to in Eastern Europe and parts of the US, so I was skeptical. Arriving well after rush hour, there wasn't a lot of traffic for me to compare, and I was falling asleep during the ride anyway so I don't know. I did notice they weren't shy about using their horns. My driver managed to get honked at before we even left the airport parking lot.
I arrived at my hotel room with only about an hour left in the day. I was pleasantly surprised to see how large it was. I was assuming it would be Japan-sized, but it was definitely a US-sized room. Any of the hotel rooms I'd stayed in in Japan could have fit in the bathroom of my first Korean hotel room. Plus I've been told the room was only about $40 a night.
Since it was definitely bedtime, I didn't do any exploring. I was led to believe I'd be staying at a small town in the middle of the country, but my hotel's in a fairly urban looking area with several ~10 story hotels and other buildings whose signs I can't read clustered around it. I also noticed there were two Family Marts and a Seven Eleven nearby, so I'll have plenty of options for breakfast in the morning.
