We travelled from Ouarzazate to Kelaa on the tarmac and then took the piste across the Rose Valley piste to the oasis valley of Dades Gorge where we spent the night in a valley auberge (inn) and ate dinner on the terrace under the stars.

The journey across the piste was amazing. The landscape was so barren and then, around a corner, we would suddenly see an oasis valley teaming with life - houses, crops, schools, mosques. It's so easy to imagine, hundreds of years' ago, a family of nomadic Berbers doing the same; only they chose to settle and invest in their future alongside a fertile river bed.
