So today we made the car journey from New Delhi to Agra - about 4 and a half hours. Our Driver is nicknamed Veero is from a small town in Rajasthan and only sees his wife and children occasionally. He has images of the Hindu
Gods Ganesh and Laksmi on his dashboard.
It's a straight dual carriageway all the way which goes through several small towns and this was a real eye opener to life for the majority of people in this part of India.
In no particular order I am listing some of the things we sa today:
Vehicles deciding to make a right turn
from the inside lane of 3 lanes ! (They drive on the left here)
Vehicles and animals going against the traffic on dual carriageway (including a herd of sheep)!
All sorts of vehicles both animal and engine powered overtaking on the outside , inside - anywhere there was space!
Unbelievable numbers of people in motorbike taxis - at least 12 in one vehicle!
Sugar cane crushing machine in operation
Tuktuks on side being repaired on side of road
Family of 4 on motorbike
Kilns for brick making
Women carrying large bundles on heads in field
Discs of cow dung stacked up for drying
1 elephant
Lots of skinny humpy backed cattle
Flat bed truck packed with women in colourful saris
Monkeys - one dressed in a skirt with lipstick!
1 snake
Sad little thin pony with deformed leg hobbling on roadside
1 camel
3 cranes (bird kind) in a field
Old man in turban sitting beside large pit in field
Surprisingly green fields of wheat and mustard rice and sugar cane
Woman leading 4 goats along pavement
1 camel
Slabs of marble (Agra renowned for marble craftsmanship)
Saris drying on bushes
Pillion passenger travelling on motorbike holding large window frame,
Minor rear shunt accident caused by Police car - much impatient honking going on!
Muslim funeral carrying remains on stretcher.
Now we've checked in at The Radisson Blu in Agra - its lovely!
Veero took us to a restaurant he knows this evening! Great place for South Indian Vegetarian Thali dishes callled "Dasaprakash" - Very cheap but delicious food!
Oh - and on the way we passed a wedding procession with the Bridegroom and page boy on horseback! Its incredible what has passed before our eyes all in one day!
Can't wait to see the Taj Mahal tomorrow!

lovely to hear of your journey and all you saw en route , fascinating isn't it and unpredictable . Are you both keeping well so far ? It sounds familiar but it is hard to cpture in a photo or series of photos because it is 3d all around you and so many things to look at all at once. You sound as if you are enjoying it which is great.
