Woke up to a sunny day with a beautiful island awaiting us! We had been told that Moorea has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Decided we were going to rent scooters to explore the island however they were all out when we arrived. Instead we hired a local taxi driver (aka Papee) to show us around the island. Another couple from Germany asked to join us and so we all jumped in and away we went. Did we mention this was what you would call an antique taxi. A van with polynesian style seat covers and adhesive print paper over the dash board. Windows down and the wind blowing in our hair as we took off. Papee was great, tried his best to act as tour guide showing us the local highlights (It's all good- we found was his favorite expression). Many pictures to follow to show the beautiful areas and lifestyles here on the island. About half way though the island smoke started to billow out the engine compartment. Next thing we knew we were sitting on the side of the road as Papee and the German fellow (a mechanic) mustered around in the engine. Papee had to take his pop bottle to a near by neighbor many time to get water for the radiator. After about 30 minutes we were back on the road going approximately 10 miles an hour while we kept our fingers crossed. The funniest part about the break down was the location. No, we couldn't have it take place at the beach with crystal clear water, our break was next to the cock fighting arena with roosters crowing madly the entire time (Yes Sara we know you would have found a corona and a place to place a bet). Papee ended up finally calling his son to meet us to exchange vehicles as there was no way this van was going to make it the remainder of the way. So the second half was in a Toyota Tacoma, went off without a hitch. Moorea is a destination location for anyone who wants privacy, peace, and relaxation. No night life or much shopping but the beaches are beautiful and the land so lush and green. One of the lookout points is called Belvedere and you can see two of the bays and the other mountains on the island. After our time ended with Papee we headed back and checked out some local crafts before boarding the tender back to the ship. Great day with beautiful sites! The ship sails for Bora Bora at 5:00pm. All Aboard!

Lessons Learned:
- Go for the local guy with a unique taxi and you will have a much better experience.
- Hut accomadations on stilts over the water are very appealing destination spots in our eyes.
- Cock fighting roosters are big crowers.

Lol
Of all of the places on the island, you broke down next to the cock fights, now that's funny! Please tell me I would not have been the only one looking for a Corona and a place to make a bet??? Please tell me you found one?? The Toyota Tacoma sounds like a much safer ride than the antique taxi. Ohhh, I better be there when you decide to book the hut on stilts, I wanna go!!! Sounds beautiful! Have fun in Bora Bora ~ and post some pics soon!!!

Cock fights?
Hey what the heck. I wouldn't of made a bet, I would of skipped straight to buying my own rooster and throwing him in the ring. If he lost we would of had dinner ta boot.
