So after the beauty of Cuenca and it's shrunken heads, it was the start of the charge towards Peru. It is possible to go straight from Cuenca to Peru but we opted for the slighty more social stop in Loja. In 50 years time (or maybe 50 days) I don't think I will remember Loja, but I may just remember the bus journey. We set off from Cuenca at roughly midday and were told it would be a five hour journey. Upto now the journeys have been running on time or sometimes a little late. Our driver, who Chief called Cowboy SuperTed (obviously the journey was taking it's toll on his eloquency), took us on a thrilling and beautiful roller-coaster ride through the Andes towards Loja. Much better than canyoning to be honest. Four hours later we arrived at our destination- a full 60 minutes ahead of schedule.

The town greeted us with rain- we found a hostel and went and sat in a pub. After a few cocktails and a slightly disappointing meal we started debating about karma and fate. With an early bus ride the next morning this was definately a good time to go to bed.

Loja has quite a nice Square and city walls and served a purpose. Otherwise not much to say. Next report will be from Peru
