*FYI, this visit was prior to Tamarindo, I don't know how to change the order it is in*
This town is only about 8k north of Ostional. It is a tight little community composed mainly of fishermen. The beach is pretty and it is a good place to go early in the morning to watch the fishermen using archaic methods to catch their fish. I don't recommend being at the beach later in the day as the stench of their catches permeates the air along the beach. The actual town has a tiny restaurant where you can choose from the catches that day and they will fry up the entire fish, mouth to tail and serve it with plantains, rice, beans & a salad. There are two restaurants you can almost guarantee are owned by ex-pats of some sort. A restaurant named Buddha Bar has some great decor and music and the open air seating looks out on a large soccer field that seems to serve as the city center. Definitely recomend grabbing some lunch and a few Imperials here. We watched a soccer game one day, and the sense of community in this town is enough to make you want to stay. The other restaurant is Ancient People and although we didn't enter it, it looked like a nice place to hang out. After watching the soccer game, we drove around the town (which is tiny so will take you about 5-10 mins depending on how many times you stop to look at things) The houses are tiny but colorful and many of the buildings and trash/recycling containers have murals painted on them referencing taking care of the enviornment and working together as a community. Awesome.
