As I have often mentioned in previous blog entries, one of the things I prefer the most while traveling is not planning what I am going to see, and following the energy I am projecting, see it's representation in the synchronicities life sends my way. My purpose in going to the Chilean desert was to reconnect to nature and my spirituality, after a few weeks of celebration in Argentina. While leaving the Andes Mountains behind going to Arica on the pacific coast, I saw a very rare sight: a vegetarian restaurant announcing its colors in this heavy meat eater's country. I followed the signs and after a little while on a dirt road in the middle of a wonderful oasis surrounded by immense sand dunes, I arrived to a place I was really not expecting: a Hare Krishna Ashram. I had read the stories of the Bhagavad-Gita, saw a few times their followers sing in the streets of Montreal and sang myself their ceremonies mantras while at the Sivanandha retreat in the Laurentians in Quebec:
Hare Krishna
Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna
Hare Hare
Hare Rama
Hare Rama
Rama Rama
Hare Hare
I have been welcomed like a king and got served such a wonderful and copious lunch, that I decided to spend the day and night there. I stayed in a very original 2 stories little house just by myself, enjoyed the river's freshness in this thirsty land and exchanged words of wisdom, in Spanish, with a new friend called Sandini and their reverent mother. In the evening, a little before sunset, I participated to a ceremony in the honour of the gods of the gods, Krishna. It was really nice, great drumming, chants and energy!!
A few artists living there did amazing art works that gave this place the magic it deserved. The energy was really special in the oasis and I took advantage of it to rest, meditate and try to immerse myself in a different life style and belief system. Overall, I was pretty much in accordance with all I was taught and found their disciples really open minded, awaken to reality, very friendly and flexible in their doctrine. I have made great friends and who knows, we might meet up again.
