It had a big courtyard, with the rooms surrounding it. They served beer, so it was in essence like living in a beer garden. Not bad for 10 bucks/night.
I shared a room with Julian, a Kiwi. There were two sisters from Columbia, MO, and a couple of other people. We walked to a butcher for meat, a cheesery for cheese, a bread shop for bread, and a fruit stand for fruit. Coming from the US, where you went just one place (giant supermarkets) for all your food, I liked going to special places for each thing...so fresh. We took it all to the Eiffel Tower, and laid on the grass and ate our food, watching people kick a soccer ball around, fly kites.
I walked down Champs Elyssee. Spent 6 hours at the Louvre. Went to Pere Lachaise cemetery to see Jim Morrison's grave (huge Doors fan at the time). Paris made me lonely...I tried to put a couple sentences together in French, having heard that people appreciated you trying to speak their language, but the people seemed very cold to me.
