We got into the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana at around 8pm, and decided to walk to our Hostel which was about 40 minutes away from the train station. It took us ages to find it, and once we did it was well and truly dark…

We got up nice and early, walked back to the station and caught a bus to a town called Bled, which was about 1.5 hours away by bus. We hired bikes and rode the 6km's around Lake Bled. It was so beautiful, and in the middle of the lake is a church on a tiny island, with all these stairs leading up to the top!

We rode another 8 or so km’s through the countryside to a place called Vintgar Gorge. The houses along the way are so nice, they almost look fake. They are in all different colours, and they all have perfect little gardens with colourful flowers and perfectly mown lawns. I was and am still tempted to pack up and move to Slovenia, it is one of the most picturesque places we’ve been – definitely on par with Switzerland and in my opinion, maybe slightly better!!!

So once we got to Vintgar Gorge, we locked up the bikes and hiked through the Gorge. It is a massive rainforest with a river and waterfalls all through it, it is just awesome – you’ll see what I mean when you see the photos!

After all this exercise, we were both pretty hungry so we had some lunch at the base of the Gorge, before riding back to Bled, then catching the bus back to Ljubljana.

We went out to a little restaurant for dinner recommended by our Hostel Owner. They didn’t have any menus, just cook up fresh produce each day so it’s always different. We thought being in Slovenia it would be quite cheap, however dinner that night cost more than any other night anywhere else in Europe! I think we learnt our lesson not to order food without a menu!

We decided to stay another night in Ljubljana because it was so nice. We spent the next day just wandering around the Old Town, did a little shopping, then climbed up to the Castle, but it started raining half way up, and didn’t stop for the rest of the day. So when we got back to the Hostel, we were cold, wet and tired so Erik went out and got a Gourmet Pizza, brought it back to the Hostel (we were the only ones there that night) and we sat in front of the TV and I watched the MTV Movie Awards – it was a good night, first English TV we’d seen since leaving home!

Got up pretty early and caught a train to Salzburg.
