My first weekend outside the Netherlands was to Bruges, Belgium. Bruges is a very lovely city...lots of history like Maastricht too but much more relaxed. Our group stayed at the Snuffel Backpacker Hostel. It was very nice place and definitely a memorable first hostel experience. The first night we were there there was a really great live band playing...about ten different people were onstage playing different instruments. Most of the group was tired from traveling...at least I was so I went to sleep very early. The following day we explored the town--among the sites was a Salvador Dali exhibit (awesome) and a beer tour at Half Moon Brewery. We also went to the Church of Our Lady which had a piece by Michelangelo called Madonna and Child (also Our Lady and the Infant) which is one of the few outside of Italy. The following day a group of us biked to the coast of Belgium...about 16 miles in all. As can be seen in the pictures, it was absolutely beautiful and certainly worth the trip.
