Well, we're safely back in Bangkok, though our last night in Yangon was a little interesting. We headed out for a farewell to Myanmar dinner to an Italian place listed in the Lonely Planet, and the whole experience was typical of Asia. First, the cabbie didn't know where the place was. This is actually not at all unusual here. The drivers know the main sights, and that's about it. Then we get there and it's closed. Permanently. Now the driver tells us it was further than he expected and wants more money than we negotiated at the beginning. Rather than argue, I pay him off and we start walking, thinking we'll find something suitable nearby. Uh, no. So a couple miles later, we find a little place, the Star Rock Cafe, and are totally blown away by the food. Pork chops? In Myanmar? And pretty good too. It's on Pyay Rd., the staff was great, the food better than we ever expected, so if you're in Yangon, give it a shot.

The ride back to Motherland Inn was typical. The driver got lost, ended up stopping and asking directions from a trishaw driver, the usual. More than a little funny actually. At one point he seemed a bit turned around, and Karen was able to tell him which way to go.

So anyway, we've been in Bangkok a day and have been killing time eating western food, getting $7 massages, shopping for cheap CD's, and enjoying broadband internet access. We've booked a night bus to Ko Lok, on the west coast, and will be leaving tonight. Time for a bungalow on the beach, hammocks, some snorkeling and a lot of seafood.
