We started off on Monday with a nice beach walk. Fernando and Tomas and the kids and I walked the beach while Amy decided to stay at the condo and do a bit of organizing. Lydia found a coconut washed up on the beach. His name is Coconutty and he now lives on the lounge chair on our terrace.
Aftet exploring we went back for breakfast. I whipped up a bacon and egg scramble that we stuck into tortillas.
With our bellies full we decided to head into town to hit the markets. Lydia found a stand that made woven bracelets. She was able to buy a baby blue bracelet which the vendor added her name in pink to. Jerry bought a totally touristy drum complete with Puerto Vallarta painted on it. Fernando's mission was finding a king size hammock. A bit of searching and a bit of haggling and he had what he was looking for. At the same stand we found Jerry a jersey and shorts from the local futbol team. It set me back a big $10. Since I had bought Jerry his jersey Lydia now had the idea that I should buy her something. She came out of a stand with a little sun dress. Amy haggled with the vendor enough to get the guy down from $30 to $20 so Lydia got her dress. Amy seems to be a good haggler as she picked up a little purse for a reduced price.
With purchases in hand we went to look for lunch.
After a walk toward the Malecon we found a little taco stand. For less than $8 we had 6 tacos (which were great!) and 3 hot dogs! A quick stop for some waters and beers and we headed back for some swim time.
We staked out our now-official area under the palapa by the pool. I think I mentioned before that we can sit with a cool drink and be within a few feet of the kids. We had a few drinks and some food at the palapa. I had some fresh tuna with tomatoes, onions, and chilies. They served it with warm corn tortillas. I think I have a new favorite Girasol Sur dish! A few hours of swimming and snorkeling and it was time for some rest.
After everyone showered we set the kids up with a movie on fernando's computer. Amy did some reading while Fernando and I headed out to do the grocery shopping. We picked up what we think we'll need for the rest of the week. The trip, however, took us longer than expected. When we returned after two and a half hours it was to questions of, "what took so long?" and "did you stop at a bar?" Well, no bar stop, any place that required human assistance, like the deli and meat counters, were, um, not super efficient.
We made some black bean tostadas for the hungry troops to get everyone settled down.
After dinner Fernando and Tomas went for a walk and found some hermit crabs. They brought them back to our room for Jerry and Lydia to see. After awhile it was time to set them free. I went down to the bar to get some ice. Fernando and tomas turned in for the night, we put Lydia and Jerry to bed, and Amy and I sat on the terrace. With a couple of margaritas. The margaritas did their job and it was time for bed. As a note, we picked a $6 bottle of tequila for margaritas - for $6 it is great. Not sure if we can find El Jimador at home but it's worth looking... I also picked up a 1 liter bottle of Cazadores Reposado for $22. Fernando said it's a great sipping tequila. I'll have report later...
