Saint Barths has been awesome.
We flew into the island on this tiny plane, just big enough for 8 passangers. It was really exciting and fun, especially because the plane swoops down over these hills right before it lands, cutting the landing dangerously close every time. The island is so small that it is the only way to land a plane saflety on it, allowing enough time to stop before it runs off the runway and into the ocean on the other end of the island.
We rented this amazing villa up in the hills and it is perfect. It is a good sized wood house that's all open, built around this cool patio, pool and hot tub (yes, the hot tub was pointless...) The patio/pool overlook this hill with a whole bunch of other villas and cool buildings below, along with plenty of tropical trees and bushes between us and the ocean. Beyond that there is the magnificent bright blue Caribbean Sea, with a white sandy beach in view.
We have done all kinds of fun stuff here, the Island is really cool. We have gone out to eat every single dinner, and it seems like each meal is better than the last. We usually get out breakfast at this cool French pastry shop that also sells baguette sandwich things that we normally eat for lunch if we are going to the beach.
There is this music festival happening while we are here, and we went a couple days ago to see a band called Gnawa Spirit. They played this really great tribal African sort of music, I don't really know how else to describe it. Basically it was like a faster version of the music from Lion King, if I remember it correctly.
We also went to this great restaurant show thing, which is said to be where all the locals go. It's on the top of this one hill in the middle of the Island. It's sort of a combination between a really good restaurant and a fashion show, mixed with a dance club. There are black lights everywhere (black lights just make anything that's white glow, but don't illuminate anything else), and the whole restaurant is painted red and has red drapes hanging from the walls. Candle light is the main source of light in the building.
Once you eat your food, these crazy women come out dancing to euro-pop music, while modeling strange and usually quite exotic (and impractical) clothing which is all for sale in the little shop inside the restaurant.
We also went on a really fun hike to this secluded beach called Colombier. It was my favorite thing we did I would say because it felt like I was in an Indiana Jones movie or something.
So, in a nutshell, we ate lots of good food, hung out at beaches and all had a really good time.
