Sharm el Sheikh is situated at the southernmost tip of the Sinai Peninsula. With shallow, sandy beaches I decided to walk in up to my knees. Now I can say I've been in the Red Sea. To my left is Saudi Arabia. To my right is Egypt.

At the time I visited, Sharm el Sheikh was just beginning to be developed. Today it's a major resort.

The Sinai Peninsula was formerly Egyptian territory. More land that Israel gained after one of its recent wars. But soon to be given back to Egypt as part of a historic peace treaty
