More Roman ruins. To be honest, I don’t remember the significance of Sebastia. I think it was one of the main gateways into Jerusalem. But another good display of Roman architecture.
Not far away, I had the opportunity to work on a dig at Petah Tikva. Only two days...but that was plenty. Talk about hard work. My job was wheelbarrowing dirt out of the site to be sifted. By 9AM I was ready to quit. Still it's an interesting and worthwhile experience watching a site get excavated.
Ashkelon was the major port along the coast of central Israel for many centuries. And one of the major cities in the Philistine kingdom. It’s the traditional home of Samson and Delilah.
