There are so many valleys in Israel I can't keep them straight. Of all of them, the Jezreel Valley is the largest and perhaps most prolific.
Israel has always been a strategically important region. It marks the intersection of three continents. There are political, economic, military and religious interests in controlling this area. Some of the biggest battles here have occurred in the Jezreel Valley.
Megiddo was one of the first fortresses I visited in Israel. It dates back to the reign of King Solomon. This time I actually got to walk through the water tunnel. Pretty amazing to consider it was constructed thousands of years ago. Seemed to me like a lot of work for such a common resource. But back then it was essential for survival.
Belvoir is a more recent fortress built by the Crusaders. It was much easier to walk around in, as it's still intact. Large cut stones that made formidable walls. Surrounded by a medieval moat. With views extending across two valleys. Pretty cool to walk along the same paths and look through the same arches warriors in the past did.
