I made a short stop in Nazareth on the way to Galilee.  It's a small city situated along the side of a hill.  As soon as I got out of the bus, I started looking for the cliffs over which the townspeople tried to throw Jesus.

The main sight in Nazareth is the Church of the Annunciation.  Truly a work in progress.  It was originally a modest homage built by the Byzantines on the traditional spot of the home of Joseph and Mary.  The Crusaders later expanded it.  Then it was destroyed by invading Muslims.  Franciscans rebuilt the church in the 17th century.  That was later destroyed in favor of a larger structure that exists today.  You can see the distinct styles as you descend to the grotto.

For Roman Catholics, this is a holy site that is frequently worshiped in today.  A few blocks away, there's another major church.  Also built on the traditional home of the holy family.
