Hi Everyone! 2 weeks from today I will be heading home! Can you believe it??

We had an awesome week! We left last Sunday for Nairobi and met Sara's dad at the airport. That night we stayed at a really great guesthouse. It was SO nice. The couple who lived there was so nice and the place was beautiful. They made us the best food, too. It was really cozy there. The next morning we got up for Day 1 of our safari. We had to travel about 5 hours to the reserve park. We stayed 2 nights at a campsite near the park. It was really incredible. We saw SO many animals and I got a ton of great pictures. It was insane to be that close to a lion and not have it be in a cage. On the second day we got to go inside the Maasai village, too. Wow! They live in huts made from cow dung and they showed us the area where they do their circumcision ceremonies. YIKES! It was definitely interesting... to say the least. Wednesday morning we spent a few hours at the park and then headed back to Nairobi.

We were supposed to catch the night bus to Uganda at 8:00 PM. We didn't actually leave Nairobi until midnight. I think I have talked about how bumpy the roads can be here, but this bus ride was like nothing I have ever seen. It was actually violent! We couldn't sleep well AT ALL because we were literally flying from our seats every other second. It was insane. On top of the bumps... they didn't stop for any breaks. Anyone who has ridden in the car with me for more than 30 minutes knows that a 12 hour bus ride with no bathroom breaks, just wasn't going to work. Four hours in, I wanted to cry! I asked the guy in front of me if he thought they were going to stop and he said not until the border, which would have been another 6 hours! YEAH RIGHT!! He was great because he went and asked for me when we would stop. He came back and said soon. Thirty more minutes passed and I was like, I have to go NOW. Next thing I know, he yelled from the back of the bus, "Where we pee??? Where we pee!!!" It was SO funny. Almost too funny for the moment! So the bus pulls over and a ton of people piled out. Oh no.... not at an actual bathroom, but the side of the road in the middle of the night. At that moment I didn't care in the least... Some of you might be wondering why I would share such a thing...but really, it's another moment where I have to say, ONLY HERE!! Plus, it's funny...

We arrived in Uganda and had to go through immigration and get our Ugandan visas. We went to Jinja and all crashed for a few hours. We ate at an awesome restaurant that night and got ready for our rafting on Friday. Oh my goodness...what a day! The Nile was amazing...and rafting on the Nile was insane. There was only 4 of us on our raft and we flipped like crazy! It's insane to me how powerful that water is. There is a moment when you are held under water when you flip and it literally feels like your body is in a washing machine. Its like you are a noodle. I was actually happy to flip right away, because you know you are going to flip eventually, so then I just wasn't scared. I about broke my ankle on one of the flips. It's still swollen and sore today.... but my motto of that day was: "It's not fun to be hurt, but it's a fun way to get hurt!" I would do it again. Our video is hilarious. One of the rapids we flipped and I ended up so far from my raft that the other raft had to pick me up and take me to mine. Some of the rapids were Class 5 rafting and for those of you who don't know, because I didn't, that is pretty freaking big. It was so great, I can't wait to show the video.

We just got back to the farm last night and as crazy as it seems, we will be leaving THIS week. We are spending the last week in Mombasa... back at the beach some and traveling around there. I'm really exciting, but I am dreading saying goodbye to the family.

For those of you wondering about pictures, I won't be uploading until I get home. It was too close of a call last week almost losing mine and some people have ended up with viruses on their cameras from the internet cafes. I wish I could share more NOW, but it's not worth the risk. Shortly after I am home, I will upload ALL of them. Sorry!

Okay, time for lunch! I miss and love you all!!

Always,
Erin

Take care and enjoy the rest of your time---I can't believe it is almost over. Love ya, Aunt Bunny

Amazing journey
HI Erin

What an honorable and inspirational journey you seem to be having. There has never been a more important time, to make the noble effort to share your vast wealth of knowledge, ideas and culture with those in the more unfortunate parts of the world. To use the words of Nelson Mandela...'As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do just the same..' It sounds like you are doing just that! Stay safe out there.
