We wanted to see a bit of northern japan on our last day here so we made full use of our passes and ventured to the end of the bullet train line in Hachinohe. This is about 631 km from Tokyo and takes around 3 hours!! Not bad. It was pretty easy to get to Tokyo station at this point and we boarded the 11am train headed north. It was a pretty nice day and we could actually see things from the train! Japan is a very mountainous country and we saw several snow-capped peaks as we headed north. It was still very much winter up there however. It's probably rather lovely in the summer!
We did get off the train in Hachinohe, but there wasn't much going on. I think you need a car to get to the interesting sites. We didn't have much time anyway and it was quite cold!! So we did a quick jaunt around and got tickets for our ride back to Tokyo. The bullet trains are really the way to travel in japan - very relaxing!! We of course arrived back in Tokyo exactly on time!
We stopped by akihabra for a bit of last minute looking around. That area is quite interesting but I was surprised that the stores closed so early. I guess Tokyo isn't an all-night place! But I did find a cool battery-operated charger for my iPhone. We had one last meal here as well at a place called "gohan". Cool place! It was on the 10th floor looking over the train station area. Nice place too. People are soooooo nice even if I have no idea what they are saying!!!
Japan was truly an amazing experience, but it is time to go home. I hope to have sone summary thoughts for the blog tomorrow. So different and yet many similarities!
Next stop.... Detroit!
