We drove from Zell am See to the Gastein Valley in the middle of a snow storm.  We were looking forward to great ski conditions and enjoyed many days on the slopes there... We had been skiing here before so acclimating to the area took very little time.  Our favorite aspect of this region is skiing the long runs connecting the villages of Badgastein and Bad Hofgastein; we could ski from one area to the next for nearly 45 minutes before having to take any form of a ski lift. We also liked the lunch huts on the mountains where you could stop for food or drink... great atmosphere.

We spent the days skiing and at night we went to the pool/sauna/thermal baths of the towns 'Hallenbad.' The 'healing' thermal waters of this region are the original reason the area became so popular... they were discovered in the 15th century when a duke from Styria (Frederick) came here dying from a gangrenous wound... the waters in the springs cured him and the area has been a wellness spa since.  I'm not sure how healing the waters are, but we did enjoy the spas after a long day on the slopes.

Internet access continued to be a problem here... we did find the one and only internet café which was owned by a very nice man named Simon. The two days we did not ski we spent a few hours there enjoying surfing the web and Simon's yummy homemade desserts and coffees!

Our apartment here was very conveniently located... equidistant from the ski funicular and the pool/thermal baths.  We also had a kitchen (similar to our accommodations last week) so we were able to cook up some great meals!  We really like having a temporary home base and wish our original plan of getting something long term had been an option... but since it is not, these type of apartments are a good alternative.
