Trip End
Apr 24, 2010
Finally arrived on the 17th, the start of my trip ! After preparing and checking my bike the day before, I was ready for my south East Asian tour. The sunday after a much anticipated night, Miranda brought me to the airport. The allowed baggage weight for Egypt Air is 20 kilos, I weighed in at 33. Bad news, as they charge an ungodly 33 euro per kilo exceeding the 20 limit.... Not good at all. However there is light at the end of the tunnel, and lucky me it's not at train ! They were kind enough to charge me for only 5 kilos instead of the whole 13 !
First stop Cairo, a hour layover ,before the 8 hour flight to Bangkok, where I met Megan,Pedro and Chris. We departed ways at the airport,my new friends piled into a taxi and were off to find a hostel for us,and I stayed behind to assemble my bike for the 20 kilometer ride to "backpackers road". I was so anxious to hit the road I forgot to bring water with me.After leaving the airconditioned airport I realized how bad this was, Bangkok is HOT, 32 degrees hot !!! Note to self : Do no forget water again....Ever !!
I don't know how i managed but i did it, helped to see the all the smiling friendly faces of the Thai peoplethat tried their best to give me directions. However they seemed to be as lost as I was. Of course I went the wrong way,and it was especially hard as they drive on the left side of the road here. Trough it was hot and confusing it was exciting crossing traffic with all the crazy trucks and cars zooming along !
At long last I made it ! Perfect timing my new friends had just arrived at our meeting spot as I was pulling up. We went to the hostel dropped my bags and bike, and was off to enjoy the night life, the food, the people, and everything else Bangkok has to offer !
Stay tuned, more to come later !

salut Ennio
Bon trip, chanceux ;)
Sylvain
Hi Ennio,
I wish you more good luck, the 5kg charge was generous of them.
Your welcome in Asia seems much warmer, fun and female! Significantly better than when we met just north of Grenoble.
Take it easy and enjoy the ride
