loneliness adds beauty to life...it puts a special burn on sunsets..makes the night air smell better.
still trying to update, all of what follows was during my stay in cuiaba/pantanal...
-i meet the friendly brazillian girlīs father, who has an obsession with short wave radio..i find this very endearing, and trust him immediately.
-friendly brazillian girl invites me to dinner with her friends..i reveal that i am vegetarian, we search for a place that i can eat at..
-being an authentic brazillian restaurant, i have no idea what i am ordering..somehow, i figure out that frutos do mar means seafood, so i stick with that.
-my dish comes, and itīs disgusting.
-i eat it anyway...
-friendly brazillian girl decides to no longer speak english with me...as she figures, this is the only way i will learn portugese..sheīs right.
-i am sitting at a table with 6 other people, everyone is drinking and talking..and i have no idea what is being said..this is humbling/embarrasing/frustrating...
-so i drink more beer.
arrive in pantanal the next day..
-i am pausing here because i donīt know how to explain this to anyone..the landscape is like nothing else that i have ever seen. totally unique..think..desert, swamp, savannha, and jungle worlds mixed together..
-the geek in me: i met a ornithologist..together we figured that we saw over 100 species of birds...macaws, parakeets, falcons, hawks, songbirds..
-i went fishing..for pirahnas.
-i caught two....then ate them...pirahnas are tasty.
-alligators everwhere...i have some really interesting video footage on my camera.
-boating/camping along a tributary of the paraguay river...
-our guide frequently goes for a swim in this river..i think that i am missing out on something, so i go in too.
-while doing the backstroke, he informs me that i am swimming in the same water with piranhas, anacondas and fresh water stingrays..
-note:my group consists of 6 people..mostly men, and one couple. i am the only one doing this.
