Miles so far: 4405

Number of seals pestered: about 20

How much I miss New England clam chowder: a lot!

We took the Pacific Coast Highway on the way from LA to Monterey Bay.  Most the time on the ocean, there was this crazy low fog that looked like a giant long marshmallow floating over it.  We drove past Hearst Castle but didn't feel like taking any of the tours but we saw it on the hill.  One stop we had friends tell us about was the Elephant Seal Beach. On the beach, all these giant and smaller seal were just lying on the beach in the sun and throwing sand on each other.  I wanted to try and wake them up but the Elephant ones were quite large.  The PCH is as curvy as people said it was, kind of like Mount Evans only with guard rails.
At Monterey, we went out and got some great seafood on the Fisherman's Wharf and then went to all the beach shops.  The next day we went to one of the top rated aquariums in the nation, known for the sea otter exhibit.  They had all kind of tanks with all different fish and we even watched a feeding; the fish went crazy!  And of course there was little penguins.  I guess that aquarium is the one that was in Happy Feet and also put the pamphlets on proper fish to eat in the movie case. John liked the aquarium but thought it was too preachy (it kind of was).  After the aquarium, we hit the road for Napa Valley.
