Arrived in Las Vegas this morning at 4am after a really long bus journey - shared a taxi from the bus station with two girls I met on the bus who were from Nottingham - one of them was really nice and the other was quite moody but a taxi fare divided by 3 is always good.

Couldn't check in until 12 midday! so I was really tired, really hot and really grumpy and had to sit by the pool for hours until they finally let me check in! The room is pretty nice though - the bathroom is actually in the room which makes a change - this place was obviously a hotel before it was turned into a hostel so there is even somewhere to hang your clothes!

There was a girl in the room when I arrived and her name is Fern she's on holiday here from Philadelphia - she seemed pretty nice so I had a chat with her before I got a shower and some sleep for a few hours to improve my mood.

I ended up sleeping for quite a while but my stomach woke me I think and so me and Fern decided to head down to the Fremont experience to get one of the promised all you can eat buffet style things for $10 it was great and much needed! The added bonus was that Fern has a car and so she drove down (its about a 10 block walk - the location of the hostel is rubbish) we had a walk around Fremont and watched some great street entertainers including a guy playing the piano on the back on a pick up truck who was the most amazing pianist I have ever seen - I could have watched him all day. There was also a guy doing pictures with spray paints - he was amazing too, the pictures looked so great and we watched him for a while too.

We also watched the light show which is on the hour every hour for 10-15 minutes but its not that great and I wouldn't bother making a special trip to see it - its just like adverts on the ceiling on the centre really.

Fern then said that she would drive me down the strip - its so "wow" the hotels are huge like you wouldn't believe and although some of it is tacky (bright neon lights that are Vegas) some of them look absolutely amazing. Apparently MGM actually owns most of the hotels (like 11 but they claim that they don't have the monopoly of the strip!!) I can't wait to get down there and have a wander round all the hotels and watch the shows that are free I think I could be amused for quite some time without spending any money which is always good too!

The plan is that I'm off to see the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon tomorrow which means getting up at 4.30am so have no plans for tomorrow night other than an early one. Because of where the hostel is its quite dodgy to go out at night unless you get a taxi so I'm gonna get the bus to the strip Wednesday day time and have a wander around then Thursday night I am staying in the Imperial Palace on the Strip (its not the best hotel on the strip but it is on the strip where its safe!) so I'm gonna have a wander round on Thursday night.

Nothing else to say really except that I have to get up real early tomorrow so I'm gonna get an early night x
