Flag of Slovakia  , Bratislava,
Friday, January 30, 1987

It was January 1987, the month when life in Bratislava was paralyzed with a snow catastrophe remembered to this day. The public transportation was out of order, the newspapers did not go to print, you could not smell fresh bread from the bakery next door, the month when I decided to make my landing in this world. Landing in Snow..... (missing text)

It became obvious to me that I wanted to travel and never stop, as soon as I could make a more elaborate thought than "I am hungry". When I was five years old my uncle and his family moved to the United States. I am not sure if I could comprehend how far it was or what constituted a different country or how wide is the ocean. I was sitting on my grandma's lap with my little cousin that I was told I wouldn’t see for the next three years.

I was staring into the yellow carpet with brown pattern, one of those you see in early eighties movies, with tears in my eyes. My cousins were leaving to absorb the opportunities in the country, where it was more possible. What was “it” or “possible” I didn’t understand.
It must have been the same year we went to visit my other aunt in Prague and after some drive we stopped at a white and red booth that looked like a gas station with ramps. My mom tried explaining the concept of boarders and how what used to be once one country is now two. Perhaps she said something about security. Maybe she didn’t even explain anything, but I am sure I asked.

I asked a lot. I know that all children are curious and have thousands of questions. But I always had more. And it might have been the genuine interest in the unknown developed in those early years that drives me wild for travel explorations until today.
