Where I stayed
El Chaparral is a small village close the borders of Nicaragua and Honduras. Once through Leon we were able to see the mountains and two active volcanoes. Both volcanoes were puffing light smoke. We heard you can slide down the volcano on sleds or snow boards! [PHOTO_ID_R=l oad-of-bales.jpg]
We passed through Chinandega and Somotilla before finding our village high in the mountains. We stopped for lunch and groceries along the way,as the pictures show.
Our clinic is in the community center and we have a group of local ladies who cook for us. We are able to sleep in a local home that has just been built and is not occupied as of yet. It has three rooms and a covered porch, with brand new outhouse out back! I will try to get time for pictures of that next week.
Our schedule is basically sun up to sundown we are at the clinic. Dr. Bedard is up everyday around 5am he goes down to make coffee and clears out any overnight visitors.
We get up around 6am, make our own breakfast at the clinic and start seeing patients by 8am.
It gets dark by 6pm so we try to finish around 5pm. We shower and have supper, play cards, visit, or read before bed around 930pm.
