Yes, another disturbed night! I was woken at 1am by the loudest noise - it sounded like someone (or something)was throwing pots and pans around! Apparently it was an ele throwing around some of the next door camps boxes! After this there were the usual sounds of lions, hyenas, monkeys etc but there was also a more disturbing gunshot - it was just about a full moon so poaches would be out.
I was awake again at 4am and lay in my bag for a while but I soon heard the breaking of branches again! Not long after a small ele appeared eating the tree outside Mike and Jens tent. We watched him for a while until the guards came and chased him away! This didn't stop him as he soon came back but this time on the lower bank next to the river.
I said I wanted to go on a walking safari here, but i don't need to now as I do one every time I walk around the campsite! Even this evening we had two 'small' eles in camp - the lady in the next camp was shouting "Shoo" at them - hee hee!! When I came out of the shower I came face to face with another ele - I don't know who was more surprised - and who jumped the most!!
Today we spent the day in the park - how could two days be so different? Yesterday we saw an amazing amount of animals, but today we hardly saw any! We saw the usual - impala, puku, zebra but hardly any giraffe and not a lion in sight! The park has many lovely areas but apart from the areas we covered yesterday, the other areas of the park were bare! We came out of the park at about 3pm and the children had made a play called Tourism in Africa - an English View! This involved them doing lots of jumping in and out of the pool and they had picked up on many aspects of the holiday including the fact that I cannot see a giraffe or I won't come back! Funny!
We have just had another fab meal of steak and salad along with smores - marshmallows melted in the fire and then squashed between two choc biscuits - fantastic!!
The lions have been roaring on the other side of the river - the loudest so far - lets hope we can find them tomorrow!
