I had promised one of the girls staying in my dorm that I would go with her to Montmartre, so we headed there early this morning. Made our way up the steep hill to the Basilique du Sacre Coeur. The sky was a little hazy so not that good a view over Paris. Inside there was a service that school children were attending. We made our way back down and looked through the shops. Then we started walking to the Moulin Rouge. Didn't realise that we had to walk through the red light district but it was alright during the day. Only thing that was disturbing was the sex shops had all their items on display and school groups that were obviously on an excursion were walking past and could see it all. Maybe they get exposed young in Paris, but I thought it was a little wrong for kids that looked about 7 years old to be seeing it all. At the Moulin Rouge we had a look around the lobby and read the history that was on display in the foyer. The price to go to a show is incredibly expensive – I’ll be cheap and watch the movie back at home! Since we had both covered almost all the sights in Paris except the Catacombs we decided to go and check them out. I wouldn’t really recommend it. Especially if you don’t like small, confined spaces surrounded by bones in the dark! Regina and I were both a little scared but we made it through the underground tunnel, it took almost an hour. Would never have thought that what we saw could have been down there. The piles of skulls and bones were as tall as me and seemed never-ending. Back above ground we checked out some shops and had lunch at the hostel restaurant. I had the best quiche I have ever tasted and a lemon tart - yum! Since it was the last night for both of us in Paris we went to see the Eiffel Tower one last time. I tried a chocolate and banana crepe which was really nice but there was far too much chocolate on it. I love chocolate but couldn’t finish it because there was just so much! Watched the Eiffel Tower light up at 10pm and headed back to the hostel. It was really nice in the metro stations and on the trains there were guys playing French music on the accordion. Getting excited about starting Busabout tomorrow!
