Stayed awake for most of the 13 hour journey from Vancouver to Banff, which is just as well as I could have missed out on some spectacular scenery! We drove through Kamloops, Golden, and Lake Louise & the views were amazing. I even caught the sunrise over the Rockies & spied some bighorn mountain sheep at the side of the road. Apparently I am also likely to see coyotes, bears and elk, yikes.

Upon arrival in Banff at 8.45am, I decided to do some exploring and discovered two main shockers:
1) no TD Bank and
2) no Tim Hortons!!
I'm not sure how I'll survive but at least there's loads of chocolate shops.

Other Banff facts:
1) they have bear-proof bins on the high street - double yikes
2) all the streets are named after animals, Squirrel Street, Caribou Street, Wolf Street, etc. There was a Badger Street marked on one map but upon closer investigation it seems that it's been replaced by Marmot Crescent. Pfft.
3) there is a tourist spot called Minnewanka Lake
4) Banff is so small you can walk around the whole town. There is one bus route which runs through the main street, Banff Avenue, but that is laughable.

Today I went horse riding near the Bow River, there were some stunning views of the mountains and lakes and the smell of pine trees everywhere.
My horse was unusual as he was a pale red colour, hence the name Strawberry. We rode Western style, reins in one hand, no hard hat, and I have now been bitten by tons of mosquitos!
Afterwards I went to see Wedding Crashers, it's v funny!

Will write more when I have time!
