A book written by the guy who made Trigger Happy had to be fun, right? A glowing endorsement from Danny Wallace on the cover kind of sealed the deal. I sat on the floor in the library and read the first three pages of this book and couldn't bear to put it back on the shelf. It had to come home with me.
"Dark tourism" is a concept which has interested me for a while now. The reactions of people when you tell them you're going somewhere a little more unusual is enough to keep booking flights. When I told people I was going to SWEDEN I was given double takes, so imagine if you said you were travelling to North Korea.
Dom Joly did travel to North Korea; his adventures fill a chapter in this book. He also visited Iran, Cambodia, and Lebanon, to name a few. I found the chapter on Lebanon the most interesting due to the personal connection to the author.
