So we got up early to head to Phuket, the ferry was quite uneventful and same same. Got a minibus to Kata beach to try and find somewhere to stay. We deliberately chose Kata beach as oppose to the lively party beach of Patong as we thought a couple of quiet days after the madness of Phi Phi were in order. Unfortunately we kind of underestimated the quietness, the majority of the actual sea front beach (which was about 1km) was taken up by a MASSIVE Club Med resort. This seemed to label this particular beach as aimed at the somewhat older crowd. And the somewhat older crowd tend to have a bit of money about them, which we don't.

Trying to avoid all the expensive places was difficult, we spent a good three hours sat in a cafe thing whilst one of us wandered round looking at places, but we eventually managed to find an awesome place called Southern Fried Chicken to stay (it really was called that!) the rooms were so so cleeeean after Phi Phi's room AND it had air con so we were happy, other perks were TV that had an English film channel and free breakfast (that turned out to be a lie, we wouldn't have minded but she said it about a thousand times when she wanted us to stay there.) Turns out we found it just in time cos about 30 seconds after we got in the room the weather broke and there was a huge thunderstorm complete with torrential tropical rain. Luckily we had tv for company and didn't do much until about 8pm when it had quietened down enough for us to go get some food. We had an awesome fish for dinner which we picked out the ice ourselves (expensive) and then went home for sleeps like the party animals we are.

The next day was beach day, with all the suitcase brigade on this beach at least we weren't having to compete with leggy blonde tanned Swedes like on Phi Phi (there were thousands of them!). Unfortunately this did mean we were treated to such sites as a 50+ year old slightly overweight woman who was only wearing a thong wandering around (horrific, trust us). By the end of the day I (EW) was quite burnt, ok very burnt but it was alright as we had accidentally gained a bottle of aloe vera gel off an American we met in Phi Phi so covered my legs in that. That night we had a stroll on the beach at sunset (all very romantic etc. where are the boyfriends when you need them?) and a lovely meal to top it off, despite ordering fail duck by accident, it was covered in ginger which neither of us like. Oh well.

We wandered back to our place past the row of bars back to our room (still haven't been able to drink much past a beer with dinner, though even that's quite an achievement after swearing blind I would never drink again after bucket night). Bar street there is just a road with loads and loads of little bars next to each other, and when we went past at about 9pm there was absolutely no one in them save for the Thai lady (boys?) and the odd older western gentleman. Nice...

We left the next day, we were going to stay longer in Phuket but we seem to be bleeding money at the moment and are going to head across to some less tourist placey beaches near Cambodian borders to hopefully go and be a bit cheaper. That and I'm not a fan watching older naked ladies wandering around the beach.

Early the next day we got a minibus to the airport (jetsetting back to Bangkok, oh yeeeah). We decided to spend a night in Bangkok before heading onto the next place otherwise we'd be arriving in the middle of the night or something. The stupid minibus took about an hour and was the same price as the 6 hour bus ride we'll be taking from Bangkok down the other side of the country, stupid expensive Phuket grumble grumble....

The plane took just over an hour to get into Bangkok and seeing as we are now pros at Bangkok we mangaed to stay in somewhere that was not only not in the absolute arse end of nowhere (double negatives anyone?) but was also on the Skyline so we can get places wahoo! In the afternoon after getting to our hostel we wandered out to post some stuff home (again, that's 3 times in 2 months now) and wandered around the main shopping centres. I bought some hair dye as I'm totally fed up of having horrendous roots so I'm now a brunette, which is a bit different but I'm liking it. We also went to see Slumdog Millionaire as we didn't have a lot else to do which was awesome.

So that's about it, tomorrow morning we're getting the bus down to Ko Chang for some more beach adventures.

Lots of love Emma X2 xxx

I have traveled to Thailand for quite a few times. It's an amazing place for vacationing. However, I enjoyed my stay in Phuket the most. I stayed at one of the Best Hotels Thailand and traveled to the most exciting places around.
