Hi there,
We did manage to get out of Datong, although we were a bit worried we would be stuck there for a couple of days as there was no train tickets and no direct buses for saturday. However the helpful man who organised our taxi for the caves got us a ticket for Taiyuan where we headed off to the saturday for a romantic valentines day on buses etc. we managed to navigate our way across taiyuan to another bus station where we got the bus to Pingyao (after a visit the nost dubius toilets yet, think peeing in a trough with no cubicle doors...)

We arrived in Pingyao about 4 o clock, it is beautiful. Such a polar opposite to Datong which was horrific. Also, big yes to the youth hostel, theres free internet, free pool table and beautiful courtyards and food and hot chocolate, see pics. Apparently it used to be a residence of a governer in the Ming dynesty. Although agter you have walked round the town a bit there isn't that much to do. On the first night (14th) we joined the staff in making dumplings (again see pics) which we then ate a lot of. We also drank some of the vodka bottle that I've (White) been carrying since Moscow to celebrate the day of luurve.

Since then we haven't over exerted ourselves to say the least. We've chilled and enjoyed being in such a pretty place, we walked around the walls a bit, saw a couple of temples. We also kept happening upon a film crew making an ye olde style film, well not that old as there were army guys with guns, no idea what its about or indeed what sort of budget its on, we reckon not much as theres only the one camera.
We also did quite a bit of souvenir shopping, to great success now we reckon we have barginning down. It helps that we are pretty much the only tourists here at the moment as its pretty cold so they're quite desperate to sell anything. I managed to get an awesome wall hanging scroll down from 26 pounds to 7!

So thats about it really, tomorrow we head off to Xi'an for some terracota warrier action which is going to be exciting. Until then, byebyes,
