Our 13.5 hour flight was fine as we managed to sleep for a few hours of it.  I was surprised the seats were so crammed together though - I thought they would have to give a little more leg room for long haul flights.
After a refreshing nap at our hotel, we visited the nearby  Holy Trinity Cathedral.  It was right next to the old wooden cathedral (which they apparently moved so they could build the new one - apparently it's common to move whole buildings in NZ!).  The lectern was made by the famous 'Mouseman' furniture maker from the UK and we spotted the trademark mouse.  Half of the new cathedral was made of stone and in the style of Guildford cathedral, but 10 years ago they completed it with a modern half.  It had very interesting stained glass windows and a ceiling in the style of a Maori meeting house.
We visited Aukland museum, which was similar to the British Museum, although they obviously had loads of Maori exhibits, including a gigantic war canoe and full size meeting house.  I looked around the natural history exhibits while Dominic went off to the war section, with GI Joe!
We were lucky that the weather was beautiful - it's very strange to suddenly be in Spring!
