A capital of 1million souls doesn't seem alot but when you haven't got a clue where you are it seems like a vast space to get lost in! Sofia is a bit on the wee side for it's principal city but it just means everything is in miniature (that would be cool if it really was I think!).

Well this story is a lesson in booking accomodation Bulgarian style: 1st know where you are staying, 2nd know where this is relative to other things you need and 3rd be prepared to go without a shower. We decided to treat ourselves to a bit of comfort and stay in an apartment - the space, the chance to cook food, the clean bathroom etc etc...so far so good but in a nutshell we'll think twice about upping our budget again...we were left in a Sofian suburb without a clue of where we were - all signs in the Cyrillic alphabet that I or Dean have a very limited grasp of, no help from the staff at company and a lovely text to say our shower was leaking so we couldn't use it - so what can you do but go to the nearest touristy place - famous church, and go from there - well we survived to tell the tale - apart from a near pick pocketing incident near another famous church - and now know we can sort ourselves out if necessary - wasting time and money still not that appreciated though.

We had a lovely time in Sofia apart from that....!
