Where I stayed
As tired as we where from the long flight and time difference we still managed to walk around some of the city, grab lunch and discover the famous cheap boxed wine called "goon". At $12 a box, its the equivalent of 5 bottles of wine. Backpackers chosen drink!
In the first week i had allot to do; sort out bank account, apply for tax file number, look for jobs, get to know my way around Sydney and look for a flat. After 2 weeks of searching i found a flat and i found a job
Staying at the hostel for the first 2 weeks i met allot of different people. There was always something going on and it was great to do this with new people.
We went on a beach walk from Coogee to Bondi along the coast, the weather was perfect and there was allot of modern art work and sculptures along part of the walk. Some of the beaches we visited will definitely be worth visiting again, Clovelly, Bronte and Tamarama.
During one of the weekends there was a flash mob dance outside the Opera House, these are normally supposed to seem completely spontaneous with large groups of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual act for a brief time, then disperse. This performance did not seem so improvised though!! Still it was fun to watch and everyone performing was enjoying themselves.
We spent many an evening at the hostels own "side bar", with food and drink offers, live music, competitions and a late night licence it was a popular spot
I had a very memorable night when i ate at the sky tower, Sydney's tallest building with a 360 degree revolving restaurant. The views where amazing, we picked the best time to go, around 6.30 as the sun is setting. The food was pretty good to.
For now, i am settling into city living, i'm enjoying the novelty of being in Sydney, seeing the sights, meeting new people and experiencing a new work life. I'm looking forward to exploring the surrounding areas on my weekends and spending the next month, which is christmas away from home.
