Walked to the Middle of the World today. Which sounds a little ridiculous but it was 30 mins from the Hacienda, although the walk was along a busy road with cars and buses who continuously honked at us. I stood on the real equator 0.0000 latitude as opposed to the one nearer Quito which is slightly off. We were the only ones there, heard a really interesting talk about the equator and the axis etc.
Once back at the Hacienda we explored it a bit more and discovered that one of the bedrooms used to be a jail where people who had fallen out with the landlord were tortured! Fortunately nobody from our group was assigned to "room 5". We discovered a run down church and also found the stables. Round the back of the building were llamas, alpacas and sheep.
This afternoon Josh, Emma Cristina and I explored the area on horseback. My horse was called Carina, she was a but spindly though. I was worried the horses wouldn´t take our weight! The area was full of rose farms all under plastic greenhouses, and strangely enough guarded with armed men. We were assured they were just roses, a very valuable export for Ecuador. They were stunning, I´ve never seen so many in my life.
Had a delicious quinoa and tuna salad for dinner, was good to eat something a bit fresher, the diet has felt very carb heavy so far.
