Arriving in Hahei early at about 12ish, I decided to have a go at sea kayaking and headed out on a trip round the bays to Catherdral cove.  The trip started in fairly calm waters with hardly any swell, so it was really easy to get out past the waves and we had a good paddle, via stingray bay (they were all hiding) over to Catherdral Cove!
However by the time we arrived the there the swell was growing and getting ashore was a little tricky...and by the time we left it was even worse!!!   We had to really time it well so as not to flip the boats!!   Then we paddled over to Motueka Island and through some pretty small little tunnels (did crash into the sides at one point...oooopppss, thankfully kayaks are pretty tough!)   We then hit the really big swell round the side of the island, and once through that headed back to the beach.   By this point I'd been in the kayak for a good 4hours and the swell really was getting bigger and bigger.....and making me feel more and more sea sick!!!   and even with the hard paddling i didn't feel like I was getting any closer to the coast!  Oh I really wanted to get out of that kayak by the end and as soon as I hit dry land I went for a swim and then lay on the sand to stop the world bouncing up and down!!!  Despite the gloopy stomach though the whole trip was really good fun, and really tiring too!
BBQ that night, and lots of yummy food.  Then we got chatting to a couple also staying at the campsite we were at and managed to persuade them to drive down to the nearby Hot Water Beach....a beach with areas of rising thermal water, which lies just below the surface and is really hot!!  Only in a couple of places along the beach and only accessible at low tide(about 11pm that day!)  So we drove down to the beach and attempted to dig our own hot pools to sit in.  Hummmmmm well it was a nice idea, but the low tide was still pretty high, so we kept getting the occasional wave that would completely flood the pools, leaving us all with very hot bums, but freezing cold everywhere else!!   We still had fun though and then headed back for showers and bed!
