Our arrival in Vancouver - The above is a quote from a Canadian passer by at around 6pm local time this evening (2am English time) so as you can imagine we were very tired, as we had no sleep on the plane. The man said it whilst we were stood on the pavement of a very busy Vancouver street, in the dark, with no idea where we were and over 90kg of luggage to carry between us. He obviously saw our layers of clothing (which we were now sweltering under) and our ski bags and helmets and thought it was funny that we were nowhere near any mountains... The comment just made us glare at him, which I later felt guilty about as he seemed really friendly; just not very helpful!

Our taxi driver had dropped us here 5 mins earlier and we had given him a very generous tip as we were so happy that we had arrived at the hostel safe and sound with no problems... By the time that he had sped off we realised that we were more than 2 blocks away from the hostel and had no idea how we were going to move all of our luggage down the busy street 2 blocks or so. And so the first hurdle/moment of drama on the trip began!

We put our rucksacks on and discovered very quickly (perhaps 10 yards later) that they are not very comfortable at all. Nick, being the gentleman that he is, was also carrying both ski bags and I had both hand luggages. By the time we got 100 yards down the road I wanted to cry with pain and nick looked like he was going to pass out so we stopped, got very stressed, talked about how the taxi driver was a *(insert expletive here* - we used many) and decided on a new plan. With the help of an amazing bus driver, who gave us a (FREE!) lift the rest of the way, we finally made it to the hostel, bought a large slice of pizza and bottle of water each and flopped into bed.

Now here we are, fighting back sleep so that we don't get to sleep too early and wake up too early according to local time. I think we will give in very soon though! Hostel is fine and we are looking forward to our breakfast in the morning before a day of exploring Vancouver tomorrow. Hopefully next post will be a bit more positive as we will have recharged and we will probably be laughing about tonight by then! Both still very excited about the rest of our adventure :D
