Flag of Peru  , Lima,
Tuesday, March 25, 2014

How hard can it be? A taxi to the airport and then a flight to Lima - simple. It was, until the demonstrations in Juliaca (not sure if it was still just the Miners) closed the roads. Our driver thought he had found an open route and then there they were! (the demonstrators). So then it was a bumpy jaunt through fields, a new 'subdivision' (Shanty Town) which was eerily empty and back and forth until we found an actual road. Yahoo! we're back in business! There were lots of police and soldiers at the airport - even tanks. I was taking photos and then I thought I was going to get my precious phone confiscated, so I put it away. There was lots of chitter chatter about people's journeys to the airport. One American couple were ready to build a bridge across a canal to get out of a field - they were also worried about where they should hide their money. Excess money wasn't a problem for us (thanks to the wall hanging). After that it was all pretty routine and then we were in Lima. Hot, humid Lima. No more Down Jackets. No more weird headaches from the altitude! I can have a Pisco Sour!

Dad on

I like the balance - things are obviously far from perfect - demonstrators, soldiers even a tank - but everybody you met treated you so well and seemed content...
