Unless you were tuned to the media, you may have missed the news about a wild winter storm. Emily and I knew the bad weather was coming so we woke up extra early on Wednesday morning to give us enough time to reach Buffalo for our 1 PM flight. Before leaving our apartment we took one last look at the airport website, which was indicating that all the AM flights to Newark were canceled, but ours was still "on schedule". The drive was slow and scary at times as transport trucks continued to pass us at extraordinary speeds. However, we did get through the customs without any problems and we arrived at the Buffalo Airport close to four hours prior to our flight. Little did we know that those "four" hours would mean the difference between reaching Milan on the scheduled date.

As we sat in the terminal awaiting the boarding time for our scheduled flight an announcement came across the PA system calling any Newark passengers to a specific gate. We walked over to the predetermined gate anticipating that the announcement was meant for passengers from earlier flights that did not manage to take off. Once we arrived to the gate the staff informed us that "our" scheduled flight was most likely not going to be taking off, instead there was an unscheduled airplane sitting in the gate that was going to attempt to fly out to Newark. The staff quickly rushed us onto the plane and promised us that they would call the luggage department to get them to redirect our luggage and place it onto this plane. In the end we found our selves as the last people on the plane and after a short wait (we are assuming for our luggage to make it onto this plane) we managed to take off into the dense clouds.
