We had another very long, boring travel day the day we decided to get from the Pacific to the Caribbean.  All I could think was there weren't many more days left like these, so I could deal with one or two more.
We had a very early bus to catch from Montezuma which took us to the ferry terminal.  I was suprised at how modern the ferry was.  It reminded me of all the ferry's we had taken up the inside passage in Alaska, complete with the car docks and even an air conditioned cafeteria!
It broke up the day a bit with a ride on the ferry, I really like to travel that way with nice views and space to walk around.  Soon after we were on another bus to get to San Jose', the capital of Costa Rica.  We had a couple of hours to kill so had some food and got ready for a five hour bus ride!  It felt very strange being in a big city again so I was glad to get out of there as soon as.
After a fifteen hour day of traveling we finally arrived in Puerto Viejo that night.  We were saying we could have done a whole flight home in that time, LA to Sydney!
We were so thankful that private rooms were the same price as dorm rooms, so it was nice to finally have our own space for two nights.  After about a month of sleeping in dorms with at least five other people and many nights of interrupted sleep we needed it pretty badly.
Now I have been away from it I realise I did quite like the town.  At first it seemed a bit quite but it really did just have that relaxed Caribbean vibe about it.  We walked down to a very nice beach, and once again the surf conditions were small and crowded so we just opted for body surfing again.
We wanted to get a glimpse of the famous surf break here called Salsa Brava.  At this time of the year on the Caribbean it can dish up waves of up to twenty foot breaking very hollow over a shallow reef.  The swell must not have been quite there as we didn't see any action out on the reefs.
For morning tea we had one of the best cappaccino's we have had in a long time.  Lovely tasting local Costa Rican coffee and milk frothed to perfection, it was a nice treat!
We had a nice picnic for lunch again back on the beach.  Every now and then we will splurge on a can of tuna, a tomato and an avocado, rather than our usual lunch of peanut butter and banana on bread rolls!
We watched the sun disappear with a few beers back on the beach at dusk, then it was burgers for dinner!  A pretty good day all in all on the Caribbean!
The next day we departed Costa Rica for our next country Panama, with exactly two weeks left of our trip down here before we would be back in San Jose' destined for LA.
